Description
The Emerald Cut
This cut is mostly rectangular but can also be square. It is a step cut with rows of facets, usually 48 to 50. It therefor has less flash than a brilliant cut, with a more understated icy cool look and thus looks best in white gold or platinum. The overall quality and cut of an emerald cut diamond should be high because the clean lines and lack of faceting reveal inclusions or flaws more easily. One should therefor choose a diamond of I colour and higher and with SI1 clarity or better. If one wants a rectangular shape the length to width ratio should be 1.4-1.75 to 1.
